Stress could be defined as a mental stress in terms of worry or emotional tension in response to tough or challenging situations that demand strength, stamina, patience, alertness and focus. Any such stress generating situations or events are called stressors.

There is no single reason that could be pointed out as a solely responsible faactor working behind stress. However, these factors are grouped into two broad categories namely, internal stressors and external stressors.

- Among other factors, pessimistic attitude, lifestyle, personality traits and tendency to ponder on small issues also play a very important role.
- Environmental factors involving the problems related with the family, work place, state of community to which the patient belongs, any kind of disturbing and unexpected event or news might also give rise to stress.
- Feelings of being left alone or in danger, financial troubles and failures in achieving a goal in life are among few other significant aspects playing a key role in initiating stress.
- Psychological impacts like depression, apathy and unstoppable anxiety are very common.
- There might be diminished sex drive and proneness toward different types of addictions like smoking, alcoholism or drug dependence.
- Lack of concentration, irritability, short temperedness and mood fluctuations are also quite prominent.

- Physiological complications like heart problems, skin problems, breathing troubles and extreme tiredness might also arise. In case of women troubles related with menstrual discharge are very common.

- Patients suffering from this emotional melancholy are advised to restrict themselves to vegetarian diet
- Spicy and oily junk foods are to be avoided and at the same time carbohydrates and fibrous food items must be enhanced
- Fruits, especially the citrus ones, juices, grains, and cereals are highly recommendable
- Consumption of vitamins B and C should be augmented since it has been found through research studies that these vitamins play a very significant role in fighting traumatic situations
- Daily light exercise is suggestible in order to keep one’s mind and body fit and to regularize blood circulation all over the body and brain. Meditation and Yoga might play a vital role in this regard.
- One must spend at least a few moments every day for pure relaxation. Besides, it is also equally essential to maintain a routine of adequate daily sleep.
